Our First College Student

Any one who is in college or graduated from college knows how much work it is to get into college and get through it. Imagine doing all of this in an extremely impoverished country with barely any hope or motivation from others. Xu Yujing our first college student managed to break through extreme poverty. She is our first college student. She reflects the hope along with the trials and tribulations of these kids.

About our progress

We have had great success in the Dandelion Middle School for migrant children near Beijing, China. Last summer we were able to sponsor 4 from this middle school after they were able to pass their high school entrance exams. But we could not sponsor another three because of inadequate funds. You probably think its a extremely large amount since we have to provide for all of their school costs, but in reality it only costs on average $2.74 a day to give these kids a chance of a lifetime! We would appreciate any amount that you donate to our foundation. These kids are clearly not asking for much. We want to provide them a normal life, a life where dreams can be reached and hopes are accomplished.

A Unique Problem

As a said in my first entry these kids are extremely impoverished. There are over 8 million impoverished migrant worker kids. These kids move to the outskirts of industrialized cities in order for their parents to find jobs in the city. Since these families are not actually residents of the city, they can't attend the cities' public schools because the cities only enroll children who can afford urban residential permits. Poor kids like these are caught in a cycle of poverty in which they have no choice because they need their parents' income in order to survive.

Our goal is to provide these kids with a new light in their lives. Most of us take our education for granted, but to these kids even an elementary school education is seen as a luxury. We do not want these kids to end up like their struggling parents. These kids are extremely drive and we want to give them hope to achieve their dreams.

Welcome to The Hope Scholarship Fund

The Hope Scholarship Fund is a non-profit foundation that gives children the opportunity to get an education and break barriers of poverty. It was funded by a current student at the University of Pennsylvania in the 8th grade!

A lot of kids that we are funding come from extremely impoverished families, their parents cannot find jobs in their home regions and have to move thousands to miles away in order to provide for their families. These kids then have to live with relatives for long periods of time and rarely see their parents. These families are so impoverished that they have choose between going to school or being able to afford basic necessities such as food and water, because they do not have enough money for both. As a result most of these kids cannot even go to elementary school or middle school.
